The Wivenhoe Encyclopedia

In Wivenhoe's Woods there are a great many attractive paths and walks. In the spring time, parts of the woods are full of bluebells. Some of the paths may get a bit muddy during the winter months as there are some natural springs on this side of Wivenhoe.

Most of the Woods are coppiced on a rotational basis every ten years to keep them light and airy. They now form a major part of the Colne Nature Reserve, majority owned by Colchester Borough Council and a small part, by the King George V playing fields by Wivenhoe Town Council.

Views through the Woods. The Woods open out on to King George V playing fields (below) and a path takes you under the railway line and allows you to get to the Wivenhoe Trail and river bank.
